Frequent power outage incidents throughout Taiwan have put the country’s energy security into the spotlight! The KMT held a “the whole Taiwan blackout, the DPP owes electricity and shirks their responsibilities!” news conference. Ling Tao, chairman of the Cultural and Communications Committee, Chang Szu-kang, vice chairman of the committee, Huang Tzu-che、Alfred Lin, and spokesperson Li Ming-xuan attended the meeting.

Chang Szu-kang compared Ma Ying-jeou’s eight years of governance with the six years of the Tsai government, and pointed out that since the Tsai government came to power, there have been 5 large-scale power outages in the country! In the eight years that the Ma government was in power, there had not been even one large-scale power outage. The economy minister during the Ma Administration, Du Zi-jun, has long advised the DPP that if it follows Tsai Ing-wen’s energy policy, Taiwan will face the risk of power outages after 2016 and may be forced to cut power around 2021. The two governments have completely different approaches when it comes to energy policy!

Li Ming-xuan pointed out that President Tsai promised to reform the power grid after the August 15 Taiwan blackout in 2017, but 5 years later, nothing has been achieved! Ms. Li further cited the TVBS poll and the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan’s “2022 Business Climate Survey,” which showed that as many as 97% of Taiwanese people have no confidence in the goal of “no shortage of electricity,” and nearly 80% of the chamber’s members expressed concern about Taiwan’s stable power supply.

In conclusion, Lin Jia-xing said that in the face of global climate change, Chairman Chu has long put forward the initiative that the energy policy of “environmental rights into the Constitution” should be reviewed and adjusted, and also called on the DPP authorities to convene a national energy conference to find an improved way forward for Taiwan’s energy security and national security!
