No progress on joining the CPTPP? The people have become the victims of the Tsai Administration’ incompetence.

In response to media reports that the CPTPP met today and didn’t include Taiwan on the agenda, Ling Tao, Director of the KMT’s Culture and Communications Committee, said that the DPP government hastily lifted the ban on food imports from the former Fukushima disaster area in Japan, claiming that it could bring Taiwan into the world, but apparently it disappointed the people again. While sacrificing people’s health, the Tsai administration is incapable of obtaining more international benefits for the people. The DPP government should make it clear to the people when Taiwan can join the CPTPP.

Director Ling pointed out that ever since President Tsai allowed the import of pork potentially containing ractopamine, the DPP government officials have been declaring that “anti-ractopamine pork” will “add roadblocks to the CPTPP accession,” “CPTPP accession will be overtaken by Mainland China and South Korea,’, etc. The Su cabinet lifted the ban on the import of food from the former Fukushima disaster area, also claiming that it would “help Taiwan join the high-standard CPTPP.” Since the Tsai administration has allowed the import of pork potentially containing ractopamine and food potentially containing elevated levels of radiation from the 2011 disaster , how much longer will it take for them to fulfill their promise to bring Taiwan into the world?

Ling Tao said that since President Tsai took office, it has been difficult for our country to participate in international organizations and enter into any multilateral free trade agreements. The Tsai administration has ruled out the so-called trade barriers of banning the import of pork potentially containing ractopamine and food potentially containing elevated levels of radiation, but the people haven’t seen any concrete progress on Taiwan’s participation in international affairs or in economic and trade organizations.

Director Ling emphasized that the Taiwanese peoples’ sacrifice in food safety and health is a high price to pay. The Tsai administration has the responsibility to explain clearly to the people the specific schedule of our country’s participation in international organizations, so that the people can understand what national interests the DPP government has supported at the expense of the people’s health.
