In response to the latest Indo-Pacific Strategy released by the U.S. Biden Administration, Alexander Huang, Director of KMT’s Department of International Affairs, said that the KMT welcomes this latest development, and is willing to engage in an in-depth opinion exchange with the U.S. government and other sectors to promote the common interests of Taiwan and the United States in the Indo-Pacific region.
Alexander Huang emphasized that the U.S. is a valued ally and security partner of the Republic of China, and has further included Taiwan as a partner of its Indo-Pacific Strategy, which clearly expresses the United States’ emphasis on the security of the Taiwan Strait and not changing its current policy of strategy ambiguity.
Alexander Huang believes that Taiwan can play a more active role according to the 10 core items outlined in the strategy. In addition to calling on the DPP government to gain a greater understanding of the deeper meaning of the strategy document, the KMT is also prepared to start a conversation with the U.S. community on various substantive issues of mutual interest to Taiwan and the United States.
