The KMT’s 22 County and City Council Caucuses held press conferences simultaneously this morning to declare the position that the risk of food tainted by elevated levels of radiation harming the people’s health should not be tolerated in any way. KMT Chairman Eric Chu participated in the press conference held by the KMT Caucus in the Taipei City Council, declaring that the KMT would stand with the public opinion and parents who are concerned about the health and safety of their children to safeguard food safety and protect the health of our next generation, without any room for compromise or any exchangeable conditions.
KMT’s 22 County and City Council Caucuses declared they would defend the food safety of the Taiwanese people. Chairman Chu pointed out that the Local Autonomous Regulations should strictly require that there’s no chance for the Taiwanese people to eat any food potentially contaminated with elevated levels of radiation. Most importantly, there must be no such food on campus for our children to eat. We should strictly implement it from the School Health Act to the Autonomous Regulations of each county and city, and, if inadequate, it should be reinforced.
Chairman Chu also pointed out that we’re a very close friend of Japan. The KMT welcomes all kinds of Japanese products imported to Taiwan, and we’re also willing to eat safe and healthy food from Japan, but we can’t accept any food potentially contaminated by elevated levels of radiation. Eric Chu emphasized that the DPP government shouldn’t use “joining the CPTPP” to fool the people. Doesn’t South Korea, which is also striving to join the CPTPP, have a more restrictive regulation on radiation levels in food than Taiwan? South Korea has a total ban on aquatic products from eight prefectures and cities in Japan, so why are we fully open?
Last but not least, Chairman Chu and the members of the KMT Taipei City Council Caucus chanted the slogan: “the KMT will do our best to safeguard people’s food safety”! He emphasized that the KMT will definitely stand with the people and safeguard the food safety of Taiwan.
