KMT Chairman Eric Chu met with Belgian Office Taipei Director Frédéric Verheyden and Deputy Director Geoffrey Eekhout this morning, in which they discussed current affairs, cross-strait relations, trade & economy, and the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a cordial meeting.

During the meeting, Chairman Chu and Director Verheyden talked about the war between Russia and Ukraine and the current situation across the Taiwan Strait. Eric Chu said that the KMT has advocated for the maintenance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, while sustaining an adequate combat power and an autonomic national defense. That is to say, for the overall planning of our military service, the DPP, as the party in government, must put forward comprehensive planning instead of political calculation and slogans. There should be comprehensive planning to ensure the safety and welfare of the people on Taiwan.

Chairman Chu emphasized that the Republic of China and Belgium have been in close cooperation, and Belgium is also a crucial trading partner of ours. The KMT has valued this precious friendship with Belgium regardless of us being in power or not.

Chairman Chu also spoke with Director Verheyden about the COVID-19 pandemic. They hope that the world will return to normality soon and that people stay safe throughout the pandemic.
