Upon learning the intention of Rep. Gregory Meeks (Chairman, U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee) to lead a bipartisan delegation to visit Taiwan in January, the KMT expresses the warmest welcome and is willing to exchange views on national security matters with the bipartisan delegation
Alexander Huang, the KMT Director of International Affairs, said “my party has long maintained close relations with members of the U.S. Congress and appreciated their support for Taiwan’s democracy and security.” “Peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are critical for Taiwan, the United States, and all countries in the Indo-Pacific region,” he added.
As Beijing’s economic, technological and military influence is looming large in the region, it is important to increase democratic capacity and defense capability while mitigating threats.
The KMT will offer a briefing on comprehensive national security strategic assessment to the bipartisan delegation and believes it can contribute to their better understanding of U.S.-Taiwan interests in the coming years.
The KMT has established a representative office in Washington DC and will make efforts on Congressional liaison for better mutual understanding and trust.
