KMT Chairman Eric Chu expresses that it is with great regret to learn that the Republic of Nicaragua has decided to end diplomatic relations with the Republic of China (Taiwan). Chairman Chu said, during these difficult times, we must be strong and firmly defend the security and prosperity of our people.
The Nicaraguan government has disregarded Taiwan’s long-term support and assistance to the country. We deeply regret that Beijing has continuously sought to suppress our country’s international presence and seize our diplomatic relations. The KMT refuses to accept any action that undermines peace and security across the Taiwan Strait.
The KMT calls on both sides of the Strait to adopt meaningful exchanges and dialogue, rather than confrontation. We reiterate that only through dialogue and mutual respect will we be able to promote the people’s welfare and resolve the political differences between Taipei and Beijing.
The KMT’s position of strongly defending the Republic of China will never change. We stand firmly with the people of Taiwan and the international society who support freedom and democracy.
