The Chairman of Kuomintang (KMT), Eric Chu, during his visit to the United States, insisted on attending the KMT meeting on 8th. Eric Chu said that during his trip, US officials, scholars and other people he met were all supportive of the KMT returning to Washington, Eric Chu thanked many friends from overseas for their enthusiastic support. Speaking of the upcoming opening of the KMT representative office in the United States, Eric Chu said that the voices of Taiwan should be continuously heard in the United States through the representative office. In addition to explaining the itinerary of his visit to the United States, Eric Chu also played a video by Alexander Huang, the representative of the KMT in the United States and director of the International Department, to introduce the new representative office in the United States in the meeting.
Eric Chu said that whether it is a discussion at the Hoover Center at Stanford University, a video chat with a professor from Harvard University or a major think tank in the United States, no matter whether they are pro-DDP or pro-KMT, we all have made contacts. Chairman Chu also visited important figures in the US government and Congress during his visit, and exchanged views on security, cross-Strait, economy and trade, science and technology, civil rights topics and so on. All of them welcomed the KMT’s return to Washington. The speech that Eric Chu delivered at the Brookings Institution also clearly explained the position of the KMT, letting everyone know that the position of the KMT since its founding is to stand with the United States and liberal democracy.
Eric Chu pointed out “defending the Republic of China and defending democracy and freedom” is the position of the KMT that will not change. At the same time, he hopes to maintain peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait through communication and exchanges. He even used nine words banner of the KMT Central Party departments “Protect Taiwan, protect democracy, and fight for the future (護台灣、保民主、拚未來)” in sending a message to international friends that the KMT is to protect Taiwan, defend our democracy and freedom, and to fight for a peaceful, stable and prosperous future.
Lastly, Eric Chu said that he is particularly grateful for the enthusiasm and support of friends from the overseas Chinese community, and he also played a video of Alexander Huang, the representative of the Kuomintang in the United States, introducing the representative office in the United States. Eric Chu said, in such a severe situation of the epidemic, every overseas Chinese banquet was full of friends and supporters, they all said that the KMT representative office in the United States must be the true voice representing ROC, so that everyone can know that the KMT is the party that loves Taiwan and defends the Republic of China the most, and have the communicate channel with friends in the United States at any time.
