The Kuomintang (KMT) held the first coordination meeting for candidates on August 25 for the upcoming chairmanship election on September 25. The four candidates reached a consensus through their representatives that a televised party chairman election debate will be held on September 4. In addition, the Central Standing Committee passed a resolution the same day to meet on September 8, when the four candidates will be invited to explain their campaign platforms and visions to the Central Standing Committee and field questions.
The four candidates in order are (1) incumbent Chairman Johnny Chiang, (2) former Changhua County Executive Cho Po-yuan, (3) Sun Yat-sen School Principal Chang Ya-chung, and (4) former Chairman and former New Taipei Mayor Eric Chu. According to epidemic prevention regulations, the debate attendance will be limited to 80 people indoors and 300 people outdoors. The debate is scheduled to be held in the afternoon of September 4 and broadcast on TVBS.
The content of the televised debate will include candidates’ campaign platforms, questions from the media, and cross-examination among the candidates.
